What is PowerPoint?

  • PowerPoint is a software used to create presentations.
  • You can use slides to display information, images, and even videos.
  • It's useful for presenting ideas in school projects.

Starting PowerPoint

  1. Open PowerPoint:
    • Click the Start Menu.
    • Search for Microsoft PowerPoint and click to open it.
  2. Creating a New Presentation:
    • After opening PowerPoint, click on "Blank Presentation" to start a new project.

Understanding the PowerPoint Screen

  • Slides Pane: Located on the left side. It shows thumbnails of your slides.
  • Slide Area: The large white space in the middle is where you design your slide.
  • Ribbon: The set of tabs at the top (Home, Insert, Design, etc.). Each tab has different tools.

Adding a Slide

  1. Click the Home tab.
  2. Click New Slide in the Slides group.
  3. Choose a layout for your new slide (e.g., Title Slide, Two Content, etc.).

Adding Text

  1. Click on the text box on your slide.
  2. Type your content (e.g., title, information, etc.).
  3. You can change the font style, size, and color from the Home tab under the Font group.

Adding Images

  1. Click on the Insert tab in the ribbon.
  2. Choose Pictures to insert an image from your computer.
  3. Browse for your image, select it, and click Insert.
  4. Resize and move the image using the corners.

Add an Action Button:

1.    Open PowerPoint:

    • Start by opening your PowerPoint presentation and navigating to the slide where you want to add the action button.

2.    Go to the Insert Tab:

    • Click on the Insert tab in the Ribbon at the top of the screen.

3.    Select Shapes:

    • In the Shapes section, click the drop-down arrow under Shapes.
    • Scroll down to the Action Buttons section at the bottom of the menu. You will see different button shapes, such as Home, Forward, Backward, Information, etc.

4.    Choose an Action Button:

    • Select the type of action button that fits your need (e.g., "Next," "Previous," "Home," or "Custom").

5.    Draw the Button:

    • After selecting the action button, click and drag on your slide to draw the button where you want it to appear. You can resize it to your preference.

6.    Action Settings Dialog Box:

    • Once you draw the button, the Action Settings dialog box will automatically pop up.
    • Choose what you want the button to do:
      • Hyperlink to: You can link the button to another slide, a URL, another PowerPoint file, or even an email address.
      • Run Program: You can also run a program, open a file, or play a sound when the button is clicked.

7.    Assign the Action:

    • Hyperlink: If you select Hyperlink to, choose where you want the button to take you (e.g., another slide in the presentation, the first or last slide, or a custom URL).
    • Mouse Click or Mouse Over: You can decide whether the action occurs when you click the button or hover the mouse over it by toggling between the two tabs (Mouse Click/Mouse Over).

8.    Click OK:

    • Once you've set your desired action, click OK to apply the action to the button.

9.    Test the Action Button:

    • Run your slideshow by pressing F5 or clicking Slide Show > From Beginning or From Current Slide to test the action button.

 


 

Customizing the Action Button:

  • Resize and Reposition: You can resize or move the action button like any other shape by clicking and dragging its edges.
  • Edit the Text/Style: You can right-click on the action button to add text, change the color, or apply effects like shadow and 3D formatting.
  • Modify Action Settings: If you want to change the action settings later, right-click the button, choose Action Settings, and make your changes.

 


Adding Backgrounds

  1. Go to the Design tab.
  2. Click Format Background.
  3. Choose a solid color, gradient, picture, or texture for your slide background.

Adding Animations

  1. Click on the object (text, image, etc.) that you want to animate.
  2. Go to the Animations tab.
  3. Select an animation style (e.g., Fade, Fly In, Bounce, etc.).
  4. Adjust the settings in the Animation Pane if needed.

Adding Transitions Between Slides

  1. Go to the Transitions tab.
  2. Choose a transition effect (e.g., Cut, Fade, Push, etc.).
  3. Apply it to the selected slide or all slides.

Presenting Your Slide Show

  1. Go to the Slide Show tab.
  2. Click From Beginning to start your presentation from the first slide.
  3. Use the arrow keys or mouse clicks to move through the slides.

Saving Your Work

  1. Click the File tab.
  2. Choose Save As.
  3. Select the location on your computer, type a name for your presentation, and click Save.

Tips for a Good Presentation

  • Keep slides simple – don’t add too much text.
  • Use images to make your slides interesting.
  • Practice your presentation to become comfortable speaking about your slides.
